Councillors concerned with static caravan plans
Concern has been raised that plans for allowing additional static caravans on a site in Scotland may reduce the number of pitches available for touring caravan owners.
Proposals put forward for the extra static caravans at the Findhorn Sands site are to go before local councillors.
Elgin North councillor John Russell told the Northern Scot that the move was "potentially worrying", as it may mean Moray would have an "inadequate" number of sites for touring caravans.
However, the councillor said there was very little reason to refuse approval for the plans.
"Not only Findhorn but other places in Moray are under-supplied with touring caravan sites. Moray council, from an economic and tourism point of view, should perhaps reinvestigate its policies," he commented.
The plans, which could affect caravan insurance customers who enjoy holidaying in this part of the country, are set to be discussed by councillors this week.
Figures published by the National Caravan Council show that in 2007 there were 11,646 motorhomes registered in the UK, compared with 11,069 a year earlier.
Meanwhile, sales of caravan holiday homes increased by 12 per cent, while the number of park homes built to residential standard BS3632 sold rose by 15 per cent.
