Gadgets 'drive motorists to distraction'

Although some caravan insurance customers may appreciate being able to use sat navs and parking sensors, a great deal of motorists are in favour of reducing the number of gadgets cars offer.

New research by used car website motors.co.uk showed that 70.6 per cent of drivers believe they are "driven to distraction" by the variety of gadgets their cars possess.

Consequently, 52.9 per cent would prefer the number of non-essential features to be reduced to help them avoid confusion.

Katie Armitage, marketing director for the website, said: "Many modern cars are filled with gadgets and gizmos and for many drivers are seen as not only confusing to use but also a major cause of distraction for both themselves and other drivers."

Car manufacturers may want to consider putting the safety of drivers at the top of their list of priorities when thinking about the add-ons to include in cars, she added.

However, one gadget that may provide popular with caravan insurance customers is the new on-board safety camera featured on the Ford Kuga.

The camera sends images to a seven-inch colour display inside the car to show objects that would not be visible otherwise.

Lines then appear on the screen to assist drivers when hooking their caravan to the car.
