Police appeal over caravan blaze

Police in the south of England are investigating a fire which destroyed a caravan parked outside a home.

In news which may prompt people to check their caravan insurance cover, Dorset police are appealing for information after the incident "gutted" the caravan and damaged a nearby property.

Detective Constable Denise Robertson, of Blandford CID, said the fire could have serious implications.

"The man and woman sleeping inside the house could easily have been seriously injured or killed if one of them had not woken up and seen the burning caravan on the drive outside," the officer said.

A 27-year-old from Wareham has been arrested in connection with the crime, while officers are keen to speak to two men who were seen in the area around the time emergency services were alerted to the blaze.

Meanwhile, the Isle of Wight County Press reports that firefighters in East Cowes were called out to a caravan fire on Sunday.

The crew used two hose reels and a main jet to extinguish the blaze, which occurred at a caravan that was parked near a disused building, a spokesman for the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue service said.
