Caravan park wins eco-friendly award

Caravan insurance customers who are looking for an environmentally-friendly holiday might want to consider a Richmond park after it won a 'green' award.

The Swaleview Caravan Park has scooped a David Bellamy Conservation Award, the Darlington and Stockton Times reports.

Botanist Bellamy praised owners Andrew and Eileen Carter for creating "an exciting wildlife wonderland which is brimming with bio-diversity".

The park is set in 13 acres of woodland and provides more than 100 caravan holiday homes and lodges as well as touring pitches, caravan insurance customers looking to get away this autumn might like to know.

According to the newspaper its attractions include walks along the banks of the Swale, where guests can see wildlife such as dragonflies and kingfishers.

Conservation initiatives at the site include the planting of indigenous trees and the sowing of high-pollen flowers to attract butterflies.

Furthermore, there are nesting boxes for bats and owls and low-level lighting is used to reduce light pollution and enable caravan owners to enjoy the night sky.

Water is supplied by the park's own spring with waste safely channelled into the river.

Swaleview Caravan Park tells caravan insurance customers that the park is the perfect place from where visitors can enjoy the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

The area is ideal for walking, driving or cycling, it adds.
