Motorists urged to check tyre pressures
Caravan insurance customers may improve their safety and reduce their risk of having to make a claim by following the advice of TyreSafe and checking their tyres are in good condition.
As part of its Tyre Safety Month, TyreSafe is calling on motorists to check their tyre pressures regularly to guard against serious accidents.
Rob Beddis, chairman of TyreSafe, said although many drivers may not be particularly interested in their vehicle's tyres, they "must be taken seriously".
"Without regularly ensuring that tyres are correctly inflated, motorists risk compromising the way that their car behaves on the road," Mr Beddis warned.
However, the first time people become aware of this problem may be when they lose control of the vehicle, he said.
Earlier this year, TyreSafe urged caravan owners to carry out basic checks on their tyres before setting off on their journeys.
It advised drivers to check the pressure, tread depth and condition of their tyres to ensure they meet legal requirements and are correctly maintained.
Given that tyres are the only part of a caravan that comes into contact with the road, they are "vital to its stability and safety", the firm noted.
