Residents evacuated after caravan blaze
A retired couple living in Buckinghamshire woke to discover that the caravan parked outside their home had been torched.
Fire services were called to the blaze at around 02.15 BST and evacuated residents amidst concerns that the butane gas contained inside Allan and Shirley Murrell's mobile home could explode, according to the Bucks Free Press.
Mr Murrell said it was "terrifying" to think that someone could have been sleeping in the caravan overnight, warning those responsible for the attack that "you could have ended up a murderer".
The 64-year-old revealed that the blaze had also damaged the front of the couple's house and his car, estimating that his insurance company would need to pay out around £40,000 for repairs.
Meanwhile, a caravan has also been set alight in a car park in the Wokingham area, with residents expressing their concern at how close the blaze was to their property.
Another vehicle in the car park was also damaged by the fire, the Wokingham Times reports, with fire chiefs yet to establish the source of the blaze.
The events will come as a reminder to mobile home owners of the importance of maintaining their caravan insurance policy even when they are not planning on going away, as well as highlighting the need for renewed vigilance and security during the winter months.
