New speed cameras to hit countryside roads
Caravan insurance customers looking to hit popular countryside locations across the UK could run into new "intelligent" speed cameras.
Those looking to get away in the UK will have to watch their speed after plans to introduce the cameras on rural roads moved a step closer to fruition, the Evening Daily Press reports.
The devices - which are already used on British motorways - monitor drivers' average speeds over wide distances so that they are unable to slow down and then speed up immediately after passing the camera.
They are currently being piloted by Norfolk County Council, with casualty reduction manager Stuart Hallett praising the "real impact" that the new technology has had on slowing down motorway drivers.
Should the trial succeed, caravan insurance customers can expect to encounter the innovative new devices on rural roads across the UK as the traditional yellow "Gatso-style" boxes are phased out.
The news comes on the same day that Swindon announced itself as one of the first towns in Britain to abolish funding for speed cameras.
