UK breaks surge in popularity
The number of people making the most of their caravan insurance policy by choosing UK holidays over foreign trips is on the rise.
According to the Huddersfield Daily Examiner, holiday directories Go Camping UK and responsibletravel.com have both reported an upturn in the number of holidaymakers opting to stay closer to home.
Krissy Roe, of responsibletravel.com, said that the current weakness of the pound against foreign currencies, together with growing awareness of climate change, meant consumers were less inclined to take flights abroad.
Commenting on the "phenomenal" trend, the Camping and Caravanning club's Ruth Walmsley suggested that the profile of people choosing UK breaks had also changed, with younger families now turning to camping over package holidays abroad.
"Mostly it used to be over-60s who would go camping, but now the vast majority are in their late 40s joining to get their families on camping holidays," she said.
The surge comes in the week that the Highways Agency (HA) announced that it is to make its traffic information available to Google for use in a new Google Maps feature, making it easier for caravan insurance customers to plan their journeys and receive up-to-date traffic information as they make their way across the UK.
