Motorists warned about thieves
Caravan insurance customers may want to heed the advice of vehicle recovery systems provider Tracker and be extra vigilant as the nights draw in over the coming months to guard against thieves.
The company warned that as the clocks go back thieves have more opportunities to target vehicles under the cover of darkness.
Bill Raynall, managing director of Tracker, said turning the clocks back provides additional hours of darkness for thieves who are able to break into vehicles unseen.
Motorists ought to avoid leaving their cars on unlit streets and car parks, Mr Raynall stated.
Offering advice to drivers, he said: "Make sure all points of entry into the car are closed and locked before leaving it and take care to park under a street light or near CCTV cameras. Take all valuables with you, including the Sat Nav and radio."
Motorists should also be war that car documents are becoming increasingly sought-after by thieves, as cars are therefore easier to sell on, the expert noted.
Car owners ought to keep such documentation in a safe place to avoid them being stolen along with their cars, he added.
Earlier this month, Chief Inspector George Wrigley, of Thames Valley Police, urged motorists to remove valuable items from their cars and to ensure their doors are locked and windows are closed.
