Row sparked over caravan

A row over a caravan has erupted between a railway museum and the local council.

The Ripley and Heanor News reports that some members of staff from the Midland Railway Centre have lived in the caravan on site for a number of years to boost security.

However, the Amber Valley borough council has now told the museum's officials that they require planning permission for the caravan.

Alan Calladine, development officer at the Midland Railway Trust, said it is a "very petty" point to argue over, noting that people have lived in the caravan for more than 20 years.

"We didn't apply for planning permission in the first place because we didn't realise we needed it and we have been advised that we may now technically have permission because they have been there for so long," he told the newspaper.

The museum has never received any complaints regarding the caravan, and concern has been raised that removing it will leave the site open to theft and vandalism, Mr Calladine remarked.

In related news, which may be of interest to caravan insurance customers, proposals for 30 static caravans on a site in Findhorn, Scotland, have been approved by Moray council, the Forres Gazette reports.
