New technology to combat vehicle theft
Caravan insurance customers in Northamptonshire could benefit from new "state of the art technology" as police step up the battle against vehicle crime.
The area has seen a recent increase in incidents, and officers are fighting back with new "trap cars" and bluetooth technology.
Trap cars - which contain hidden cameras to film unwitting thieves attempting to make off with the vehicle - will be used to identify perpetrators and help bring them to justice.
Meanwhile, officers will use bluetooth to hand out advice to car and caravan insurance customers living in vehicle crime hotspots, relaying security reminder messages from a laptop computer to all bluetooth enabled devices within 75 feet.
The operation is led by Sergeant Dennis Murray and he insisted that car and caravan owners could assist police by "doing their bit" to prevent crime.
"We really need people to check that they lock their car every time they park and to take all their property with them when they go, even if they are parked on their own drive," he said.
Caravan insurance customers were reminded of the possible repercussions of failing to lock up their mobile homes last week when police discovered an intoxicated man in possession of a knife inside one Eastbourne resident's caravan, according to the Eastbourne Herald.
