"Relaxing" new campsite planned in Norfolk
UK holidaymakers could be set to make the most of their caravan insurance policies at a proposed new site in Norfolk.
Breckland Council planners are recommending approval for the "quiet" 50 pitch campsite near a historic country hall in the region.
The application was made by Andreus Medler, of R G Medler Farming, who said he was looking to create a pleasant site in a location where people could unwind, relax and enjoy the countryside.
Visitors to the site, which would include 30 pitches for touring caravans and 20 for tents, would have full access to a reception office as well as toilet and showering facilities at the location.
The site would cover 1.4 hectares of walled farm land close to Bylaugh Hall, with a new access road planned off the B1147.
Plans are not yet a formality, with Bylaugh Parish Meeting and local residents objecting on the grounds that the camping site could cause road safety problems as well as intruding on the rural landscape.
Caravan insurance customers should be given further notice of whether the site will go early next week, with the application set to be discussed at Breckland Council's development control committee meeting on Monday.
An increasing number of UK holidaymakers are turning to caravanning breaks at home as the credit crunch puts pressure on finances, and the Camping and Caravanning Club has opened 11 new sites in the past three years.
