Travellers hit by cold snap

Caravan insurance customers considering taking a family break in their mobile homes this half-term may have been discouraged by the recent cold snap.

Many regions across the UK saw the first snowfall of the winter earlier today, with Scotland worse hit by the blizzards, and the icy conditions have caused havoc for some British motorists.

Two roads are still closed after a spate of crashes in the north-east of Scotland, and temperatures are expected to fall as low as -1C this evening, according to the Evening Express.

And despite a Met Office spokesman insisting that the freezing conditions would be replaced by "dry, bright weather" going into the weekend, Grampian Police warned motorists to take it slow on the region's roads.

"We would urge drivers to take extra care during cold spells as the road surface may be ice," a spokeswoman said.

The caution may be particularly relevant to caravan insurance customers looking to get away this week, after the Edinburgh Evening News revealed earlier this year that an increasing number of holidaymakers were swapping package holidays abroad for trips to the Highland region.

Scotland's Caravan and Outdoor Leisure Show also attracted a record 31,000 customers in February and many campsites have seen significant increases in bookings, the report suggests.
