Caravan buyers view latest models

The number of holidaymakers taking out caravan insurance on their new vehicles could be set to rise if attendances at Birmingham's International Caravan and Motorhome show are anything to go by.

According to the Times, an estimated 70,000 enthusiasts flocked to the show as they sought a glimpse of some of the latest models on offer.

And they were not disappointed as manufacturers flaunted some of the hottest new gadgets to hit the caravan industry.

Models with flat-screen televisions and internet access as well as one motorhome with a self-contained SmartCar garage wowed onlookers at the NEC.

And buyers seeking to reduce their impact on the environment were treated to a full viewing of the custom-built EcoStream, an aluminium trailer that features solar panels, a wood burning stove and composting toilet.

According to the report, sales of new mobile homes surged beyond 11,000 in the UK in 2007, with the second hand market also enjoying a soar in sales.

But owners of the new gadget-filled models will need to take particular care to ensure they are fully covered by their caravan insurance.

Indeed, West Yorkshire Police issued advice earlier this week warning both car and caravan owners to remove all valuables from sight within parked vehicles and to ensure that keys are kept secure and out of sight around the home.
