Motorists urged to maintain their cars
Holidaymakers looking to make the most of their caravan insurance by taking a family break in the UK this winter are being advised to make sure they prepare their cars.
According to research by Kwik Fit, millions of drivers are risking accident and injury on the roads as they abandon basic maintenance checks, with one in ten conceding they would have no idea how to even open their car's bonnet.
In order to avoid a breakdown or potential accident that would end their holiday before it had even begun caravan owners should perform thorough checks on their cars before setting off.
David White, customer services director at Kwik-Fit, advised motorists to either "take just one hour to get to know their car" or at least take it to a qualified mechanic to ensure they stay safe on the road.
"With winter approaching it's even more important for cars to be in tip-top condition as they will have to deal with trickier road conditions where poor maintenance can have serious consequences," he said.
Earlier this month, motorists were urged to check the tread depth and pressures of their tyres by UK organisation TyreSafe in order to reduce the risk of accident or injury while driving.
