Vandals junk valuable Jaguars

Comprehensive car insurance is a good idea for any set of wheels, but the more expensive the motor, the more you stand to lose if you ignore its importance.

However, even a good cheap car insurance deal is unlikely to come as much comfort to one classic car collector, who could never have foreseen his terrible loss.

Vandals in the town of Newport in Wales completely destroyed owner James Hull's valuable collection of classic Jaguars.

Numbering over 60, they were estimated to be worth more than £1 million in total, including one that was valued at £150,000.

Police called to the scene of the wreckage in a secure warehouse concluded that the vandals had "hotwired" the cars to get them moving, before using them in a game resembling "dodgems".

Mr Hull, 45, said: "I've spent 30 years building up the collection and it was destroyed in two hours."

When shopping around for a cheap car insurance quote, make sure you pay careful attention to what is covered in the policy. Third party motor insurance is a legal requirement in the UK, but fire and theft requires another level of insurance.

As this example shows, your car should also be insured for vandalism, although there is no replacement for keeping it in the garage overnight and investing in advanced security systems.

Taking precautions such as these will also help to keep costs down when it comes to the hunt for cheap car insurance premiums.
