Young family forced to live in mobile home

A lack of affordable housing in a town in Devon has left one couple and their eight-week-old baby truly making the most of their caravan insurance.

Stacey Pincombe and partner Mark Chivers are living with daughter Megan in a mobile home parked on Miss Pincombe's mother's drive in Honiton, according to the Devon Midweek Herald.

The young couple say they simply cannot afford the cost of renting or buying property in the area, and have been on the council's housing register since July 2006.

There is no heating, gas or electric supply to the caravan, with a cable being run from the home of her mother, Yvonne Chard, to light the vehicle.

"A couple of nights ago, Megan had to go in the house with mum because there was ice inside the caravan windows and on the ceiling," Miss Pincombe said.

Her mother already has three children still living at home and has no room for the young family, she explained.

Other owners who keep their mobile homes parked in the driveway will need to be aware of the importance of caravan insurance after a retired couple in Buckinghamshire last month had their vehicle torched outside their home, according to the Bucks Free Press.
