Police issue warning over rural thefts
West Mercia Police have warned visitors to a beauty spot in the region to make sure they remove all valuables from their cars before they leave them.
Caravan insurance customers contemplating a trip to Hanbury Woods in Worcestershire may need to take particular care after a string of thefts from parked cars in the area over the last few weeks.
Since the end of October, thieves have smashed the windows of several vehicles, allowing them to get their hands on a number of handbags, keys, mobile phones and other valuables.
Droitwich Community Support Officer Jennah Douglas said some of the items had been taken even though owners had attempted to hide them under seats or in the boot.
"We would not only urge visitors to Hanbury Woods, or any rural beauty spot, not to leave valuables on display under any circumstances but advice is to remove them from cars altogether," she commented.
She added that thieves often targeted remote areas, many of which are favourites for caravan insurance customers heading for a relaxing break.
This comes after the IAM warned motorists yesterday not to leave marks on the windscreen caused by their satellite navigation systems, as they could lead criminals to break into the vehicle in search of the device.
