Owner's warning after caravan blaze
Caravan insurance customers have been warned against the dangers of their holiday lifestyle after a vehicle in Bradford was destroyed by fire.
Phillip Wells, 39, saw his caravan gutted by the blaze and is urging owners to disconnect the batteries on their mobile homes when they are not in use in order to avoid a similar fate, the Bradford Telegraph and Argus reports.
The self-employed joiner, who lives in Bradford, had been planning to put his vehicle into storage for the winter when an electrical fault sparked a fire that damaged three other vehicles, two garages and a nearby house.
"I had hooked it up to the Transit van ready to put it into storage. At about midnight, I was watching television when I heard a loud bang," Mr Wells explained.
The caravan had burst into flames, setting fire to a new Toyota Avensis parked on the driveway next door and damaging other property in the vicinity.
Mr Wells praised the quick work of the firefighters who attended the blaze and warned other caravan insurance customers about the threat of fire to their vehicles.
"You wouldn't believe how quickly it went up," he added.
The incident follows a similar fire in Hereford, where fire spread from a mobile home to nearby properties and vehicles after being attacked by arsonists, according to the Hereford Times.
