Seafront caravan park 'still on course'
A new seafront caravan park is still set to open in Lowestoft next summer in spite of a series of delays, council bosses have insisted.
Work is yet to start on the £4.5 million redevelopment of the site in North Denes despite being given the go-ahead in June of this year, the Eastern Daily Press reports.
Complications surrounding the project arose after a path that runs through the site was handed official public footpath status, but council officials have dismissed concerns over the delays.
"There is no threat whatsoever to the viability of the site and initial work will commence in due course," said a spokesman Waveney District Council.
He confirmed that the park was still aiming to open its doors to caravan insurance customers next summer, blaming the delays on "contractual formalities".
The site represented "a wonderful regeneration project" which would offer "an iconic, landmark site for tourism" in Lowestoft and help to attract income for the town, he added.
Mobile homeowners considering paying a visit to the site next summer should ensure that they take out caravan insurance, however.
The importance of having full cover was highlighted this week when thieves in Hull stole a caravan that was acting as a temporary home for a family whose house had been wrecked by floods.
