Biker injured by caravan thieves
A teenage biker was left hospitalised after being hit by caravan thieves on the run from the police.
The motorcyclist was dragged along the road for 800 yards after becoming trapped beneath the caravan on Bridgwater Road in Darwen, but fortunately suffered only minor injuries.
Police had earlier tried to stop the Ford Transit van that was towing the caravan, but the driver failed to stop and jumped a red light before colliding with the motorbike.
Police believe that both the van and the mobile home were stolen, and have arrested a 15-year-old boy on suspicion of theft and failure to stop.
The suspect is now being questioned by police and officers are also hunting a second man who they say ran off towards the nearby Walkden precinct.
Inspector Ian Hales from Greater Manchester Police's road policing unit said: "This act could have had fatal consequences. Thankfully, the cyclist only suffered minor injuries."
"It appears both the van and caravan were stolen and the driver failed to stop in a bid to evade arrest," he explained.
The incident will come as a further reminder to mobile home owners of the need to take out caravan insurance on their vehicles after one holidaymaker in Bradford saw his vehicle gutted by flames following an electrical fault.
