Caravan enthusiasts looking for top hospitality during their UK getaways may consider a trip to one of Aberdeenshire Council's 11 holiday parks.

The sites have been honoured for their customer service at this year's Northern Lights Tourism Awards, which were held at the Marcliffe Hotel earlier this week.

This provides recognition of a string of initiatives that have been implemented over the last year, aimed at putting the visitors first.

All 11 parks have seen the introduction of a number of new schemes, including a new email system that allows holidaymakers to request advanced bookings during the closed seasons.

In addition, the sites' web pages have been overhauled in order to offer more information and make them easier to use for customers.

Ian Gabrieal director of transport and infrastructure, said he was "absolutely delighted" to see the caravan parks receive the award.

"This demonstrates the clear commitment of the Council's employees to our customers and the ongoing success and importance to our economy," he added.

Caravan insurance customers were recently assured that the building of a new seafront caravan park in Lowestoft would definitely go ahead.

Doubts over the £4.5 million project had been raised after the start of work was delayed, but council officials insisted that the plan was still on course, according to the Eastern Daily Press.
