Caravan owners urged to check tyres
Mobile home owners have been warned about the safety risks involved in storing away their vehicles for the winter months.
With the weather beginning to get more severe, many caravan insurance customers may be considering laying up their trailer in order to help prevent damage.
However, without first performing necessary checks on their motorhomes, they could risk facing problems with their vehicles in the future, experts have suggested.
According to UK tyre dealer network Protyre, there are a number of practical steps that owners should take before storing away their vehicles.
In addition to visually checking its tyres for any damage, they should examine tread depth and ensure the valves are in good condition.
The caravan should be jacked up in order to avoid resting the entire weight of the vehicle on its tyres, the firm suggests, or even have its tyres removed completely and stored in a cool and dry environment away from sunlight.
Commenting on the advice, the Camping and Caravanning Club's Barry Norris said: "Tyres are the only contact the car and caravan has with the road surface and so care should be taken that they are in good condition and fit for purpose," he advised.
One caravan owner recently warned fellow enthusiasts to also disconnect the batteries when storing their mobile homes after his vehicle burst into flames due to an electrical fault.
