Recovery team escape caravan blaze
Caravan insurance customers have been reminded of the need to have their vehicles fitted with a working fire alarm in order to avert a potential disaster.
Firefighters in Goole issued the warning after a team of workers conducting improvements on the M62 escaped a blaze in their mobile home, according to the Goole Courier.
The group was based in a caravan on the A63 and A614 junction in Howden, and only avoided being caught up in the fire after they were alerted by their smoke alarm.
After evacuating the vehicle, they informed the fire and rescue service, who arrived to extinguish the blaze in the early hours of Monday morning.
Glenn Ramsden, from Humberside Fire and Rescue, said the workmen had done "exactly what we ask" in the event of a fire.
"It is almost the text book fire safety scenario and goes a long way to demonstrate how a working smoke alarm can save your life," he added.
The fire is believed to have been caused by accidental ignition, the paper reports.
Last month, a caravan owner in North Devon escaped through the window of his burning vehicle after he was woken by his 14-month-old pet dog Jake, according to the North Devon Journal.
