Cornwall caravan park lands top award

Caravan insurance customers looking for a five-star break next summer may wish to take notice of a multi-award winning site in Cornwall.

Having picked up gold in last year's Cornwall Tourism Awards, Trethem Mill touring park has now been handed silver in the holiday park of the year category of the regional South West Tourism awards for 2008, according to the Cornish Guardian.

The site, in Saint-Just-in Roseland, is run by Ian Akeroyd and his family, who have transformed its facilities in the 16 years since they took charge of it.

Mr Akeroyd said he was delighted with the prize, which he claimed was testament to the family's continued hard work and investment in the park.

"To be a winner we had to demonstrate outstanding levels of customer service and exemplary facilities. We also had to show a deep commitment to sustainability and accessibility," he stated.

The caravan park beat off competition from a number of sites across the south-west to land the award, which was presented at the Cadbury House Hotel and Spa in Somerset.

Holidaymakers who would prefer a trip further north might also consider one of the 11 parks in Aberdeenshire, which were recently honoured for their hospitality at this year's Northern Lights Tourism Awards.
