Caravan park plans get the boot
Plans for a new caravan park in the north of England have been foiled after protests by local residents.
Villagers in Warkworth opposed a bid by the Duke of Northumberland to build a new site on farmland in the area, and their fight has proved successful.
After a lengthy battle, the Duke's proposals for a park that would have housed close to 100 caravans have twice been dismissed by district councillors.
Their ruling was based on fears raised by residents, who claimed that the site would generate substantial traffic on narrow country lanes near the site. And despite subsequent appeals from developers, the decision has been upheld by a government planning inspector.
Jeff Watson, local district and county councillor, told the Northumberland Gazette that the outcome has provided "an early Christmas boost" that will delight residents in the area.
He revealed that there had been more than 60 letters of objection to the proposed development, with only two in support. "This alone demonstrates how the community were united in thinking that a caravan park was not suitable in this location," Mr Watson added.
Despite the rejection, caravan insurance customers still have a number of top locations available to them across the UK, including one site in Milnthorpe, Cumbria which has recently announced plans for a new £3.5 million leisure complex to be introduced.
