Holidays 'a necessity rather than a luxury'

The number of buyers taking out caravan insurance on their new mobile homes is set to remain strong, if recent trends are anything to go by.

According to the Association of Independent Tour Operators (AITO), UK citizens see holidays as "a necessity rather than a luxury".

As a result, they are refusing to let the current recession put pay to their annual holidays, with the increased doom and gloom even giving them further reason to get away from it all.

Public relations officer at AITO Ian Bradley said that, behind buying a house and a car, a holiday was "probably the biggest annual expenditure for many households".

"People may be taking two holidays a year now instead of three, or one instead of two, but people are still taking holidays," he declared.

Indeed, caravans may offer the ideal solution for those looking to reduce the cost of their holidays.

Investing in a mobile home can allow people to holiday over and over again, with little more than the cost of travel and camping fees to pay out.

A survey by ebookers.com recently revealed that consumers were willing to sacrifice luxury purchases, nights out and clothes shopping in order to ensure that they could still afford their annual holidays.
