Stolen camper van brought crashing to a halt

Motorhome owners have been alerted to the importance of taking out caravan insurance on their vehicles to help protect against criminal damage after an incident in Plymouth.

According to the Plymouth Herald, one camper van owner has been left counting the cost after falling victim to thieves.

The stolen Daihatsu vehicle was eventually brought to a halt after crashing into a number of vehicles in a street in Lipson, before flipping over onto its side.

Police are still on the lookout for the driver of the vehicle, however, with reports that a man in his 20s was seen running away from the scene of the accident.

"The van had hit two cars across the road and a rather nice black saloon that was hit all down the side. I think at least one has been written off," an eyewitness told the newspaper.

He said the whole street had been woken by the "dramatic" events, and added that he believed the camper van had been stolen while its owner was away.

Meanwhile, visitors to a caravan park in County Durham witnessed similarly dramatic scenes as a stolen Ford Transit Van was driven round the site before crashing into a lamppost.

Police have since arrested a 17-year-old suspect in connection with the theft, the Hartlepool Mail reports.
