Caravan owners 'should be extra vigilant'

Mobile home owners are being urged to keep a close eye on their keys to avoid a claim on their caravan insurance policies.

According to data from leading stolen vehicle recovery specialist Tracker, the theft of car keys is the most common way in which thieves carry out a steal.

Many motorists leave keys to their cars and motorhomes in places where they are easily visible, such as on hall tables or hanging in the hallway.

However, Tracker is warning that greater care must be taken in order to reduce the risk of falling victim to such crimes.

Stuart Chapman, the firm's police relationship manager and a former senior police officer, warned that looking after keys should be "the first step" in vehicle security.

"In particular, at this time of year people should be extra vigilant as they visit friends and family, and can be easily caught off guard," he stated.

This comes after a report in the Maldon Standard, which revealed that a caravan had been stolen from a secure holiday park in Steeple, Essex.

Thieves broke through the padlocked gates of the site, before removing the wheel locks on a 20-foot long four-berth caravan and towing it away.
