Staffordshire caravan gutted by fire
The owner of a mobile home in Staffordshire has been left facing the prospect of a hefty claim on his caravan insurance policy after his vehicle was destroyed by fire.
Firefighters were called to the blaze in Love Lane, Rugeley, last week, with appliances from Rugeley, Cannock and Abbots Bromley all attending the incident.
The static caravan, which was being used as an office on a camping site in the area, was found engulfed in flames when crews arrived.
Occupants of the caravan all escaped uninjured, but the vehicle itself was completely destroyed by the fire and damage was also done to a car parked nearby.
Staffordshire Fire and Rescue station manager Ruth Watchorn-Rice said the fire was an accidental occurrence, caused by an old solid fuel burner that was being used inside the mobile home.
"The dangers of solid fuel burners are high in caravans due to the heat they emit. Caravan occupiers are advised to use other types of heaters which are easier to regulate the temperature," she added.
This follows an incident in which a Slough man was killed after the caravan in which he slept was gutted by fire earlier this month, according to the Maidenhead Advertiser.
Speaking at an inquest into the man's death, coroner Peter Bedford said the fire had probably been caused by a piece of wood falling out of the stove in the vehicle.
