Tourist attraction to host new caravan site

UK tourists looking to take out caravan insurance on their new vehicle and then hit the open road might welcome plans to develop a new holiday park in Northamptonshire.

Managers have secured permission to build a site at Wicksteed Park, Kettering, which will feature 25 static caravans and 100 touring pitches, according to the Northants Evening Telegraph.

The park already draws a number of visitors, with hundreds of people flocking to the region last summer to ride Wicksteed's new log flume ride.

One member of the public who was enjoying the attractions at the park yesterday told the newspaper that he was glad managers were looking at new ways to help boost tourist numbers.

"As long as it doesn't impact too much on areas which the public use I think it's a good idea," said Andrew Webb, of Burton Latimer.

Eager holidaymakers will have to bide their time before the site is finished, however, with development not due to start for some time.

Park officials must first carry out work to widen the access road to the park and add new markings before construction on the site itself can begin.

According to the National Caravan Council, caravan breaks are likely to remain a popular option in 2009 as Brits look to beat the credit crunch by holidaying closer to home.
