Good van year for Vauxhall

GM Europe, the largest car and van manufacturer in the world, increased its annual European vehicle sales by 1.6 per cent last month.

Although an increase in the overall market took its market share down 0.1 per cent to 9.1 per cent, Jonathan Browning, vice president of sales and marketing, announced that "sales volume is growing steadily".

The firm's Opel brand saw sales of light commercial vehicles in Europe increase by more than six per cent year-on-year, hitting almost 11,500.

The UK's equivalent brand, Vauxhall, put in a similarly strong performance in the van market, with registrations of the Vivaro up by over a fifth compared with February 2004.

Combined with the continuing success of the Combo light van, this was enough to boost Vauxhall's share of the van market from 18.6 per cent to 19.5 per cent.

And looking at van sales so far this year, this figure increases from 16.3 per cent, according to Auto Spectator.

Vauxhall's van range includes the Movano, Astra Van, Corsa Van and Vivaro, as well as the Combo, which continued to top the bestseller chart in February.

Available in two and five-seater versions, the Combo has a luggage capacity of between 2,695 and 3,200 litres and an engine range from 1,364 cc to 1,686 cc.

Shop around for cheap van insurance for your Vauxhall Corsa, remembering that the cheapest van insurance can often be found online.

Even cheaper van insurance may be secured if you restrict the number of named drivers on your van insurance policy - of if you make sure it is fitted with an approved security system and stored in a locked garage overnight.
