Mid-Wales features 'some of the finest sites in Europe'

Caravan insurance customers staying in the UK can now make the most of "some of the finest caravan parks in Europe", an industry official has claimed.

Tony Bywater, chief executive of Salop Leisure, told the Daily Post that owners of sites across mid-Wales have worked together to attract thousands of tourists to the region.

After millions of pounds worth of investment, caravanning is now being promoted as an attractive holiday option.

This has been highlighted by "a series of national awards" recognising the parks as some of the best in Europe, Mr Bywater said.

He also noted that the increased popularity of caravan and holiday home parks would have a positive impact on the local economy.

"In mid Wales alone, we estimate that holiday home parks generate around £90m a year, with caravan and chalet owners supporting a wide range of local businesses during their stay," he told the newspaper.

This was being boosted further by the fact that many sites are now staying open for up to ten months a year, meaning tourists were visiting all-year-round, Mr Bywater added.

Managers of Wicksteed Park in Kettering were recently given planning permission to build a new holiday site, which will feature 25 static caravans and 100 touring pitches, according to the Northants Evening Telegraph.
