Caravan charges set to rise

Caravan insurance customers and other camping enthusiasts may find themselves paying more for caravan sites and beach chalets in Filey, Scarborough and Whitby this year, the Scarborough Evening News has reported.

Brian Bennett, head of tourism and culture in the region, said that while prices of miniature golf, boating activities, council-operated cliff lifts, tennis courts and deckchair hires will not increase in the coming year, proposed increases for beach chalets in the region will be between 7.21 per cent and 9.86 per cent compared with last year's fees.

"The long waiting lists for the use of beach chalets are an indication that the 2008 charges were below the market value," he said.

In addition, charges for use of the caravan site at Filey are set to increase, according to proposals which will be presented to the local council's tourism and leisure committee this week.

The Filey Mercury recently reported a number of vandal attacks in the region, including a caravan burglary at Gristhorpe's Blue Dolphin holiday park.

A pair of burglars were interrupted by site security when they attempted to break into an empty caravan on the site on December 23rd.

The incident may highlight the importance of taking out a comprehensive caravan insurance policy to protect against potential theft or damage.
