Brits 'still set on winter holidays'
The gloomy state of the UK economy is not about to prevent steely Brits from taking their winter holidays in the new year, figures suggest.
Many families are being forced to make cutbacks as a result of the financial pressures brought about by the faltering UK economy.
But according to American Express, people are refusing to put their winter holidays on hold because they "cannot resist" going without them.
"We have seen no evidence to suggest that Britons will be foregoing their winter breaks this year despite economic conditions forcing people to pull the reins in on their spending habits," said Chris Rolland, head of American Express.
But with holiday budgets inevitably having to be rethought in light of the credit crunch, the number of people taking out caravan insurance ahead of a mobile home trip could be set to increase.
The weakening of the pound against the euro could also contribute to the trend, with many likely to find themselves priced out when it comes to visiting traditional eurozone locations.
Indeed, the Caravan Club recently reported a 40 per cent rise in advanced bookings for 2009 as more and more people look to holiday closer to home.
This follows on from a record year for bookings in 2008 as domestic tourism continues to benefit from the effects of the credit crunch on consumers.
