Caravan vandal faces compensation payout

A teenager in Skegness has been forced to pay compensation after he admitted to vandalising a mobile home.

Christopher Whiting caused £600 worth of damage to a static caravan pitched at East Kirkby airfield, the Skegness Standard reports.

The 19-year-old smashed several windows on the vehicle, no doubt leaving one caravan insurance customer less than pleased with his actions.

He then pulled the cooker from the wall and smashed plates and crockery inside the caravan.

Mr Whiting was only arrested after officers succeeded in matching traces of his blood found inside the caravan.

Skegness magistrates heard that he had not acted alone in causing the damage, although he was unwilling to give details of his friend's identity.

He had also been "seriously in drink" when he committed the offence, but was fined £160, as well as being ordered to pay £600 compensation and a £15 surcharge for his part in the vandalism.

This comes after Kent Online reported that a family was lucky to escape with no more than a claim on their caravan insurance after their caravan was set alight "in suspicious circumstances".

Although the vehicle was empty at the time, the news source revealed that children had been sleeping in the caravan overnight just days before the blaze occurred.
