Caravans offer "everything you need" for a fun-filled British holiday that won't cost the earth, it has been claimed.

Writing for the Birmingham Mail, journalist Anna Jeys conceded that the lifestyle enjoyed by many caravan insurance customers took "some getting used to".

Ms Jeys said she had long lost touch with traditional British seaside resorts as she plumped instead for the "quick and easy" option of booking a cheap package trip to any number of far-flung holiday destinations.

But by embarking on a caravanning holiday to Cornwall, she claimed to have rekindled her fondness for UK breaks.

Ms Jeys headed off to the coastal resort "with visions of Peter Kay's Max and Paddy in my head" after picking up the Orian Zeta ES motorhome.

However, she was keen to highlight the benefits of a caravan holiday, with the versatility of the vehicles providing a major attraction.

"We decided a mobile, and hopefully cheaper, type of accommodation was our best bet," Ms Jeys wrote.

"A fully functioning kitchen and bathroom meant that we could have pitched up on the side of the road and stayed perfectly happily, should we so wish."

These advantages could prove appealing to British holidaymakers this year, with research commissioned by the Confederation of Passenger Transport UK revealing that 50 per cent of people plan to spend less than £500 on their holiday.
