Norfolk police seek end to arson attacks

Caravan insurance customers in a Norfolk town may welcome a police operation to cut down on the number of arson attacks in the region.

Officers announced plans to make the Painter Street area in Thetford a priority after witnessing a recent spate of incidents.

Inspector Paul Wheatley said that plans were afoot to help identify those responsible for the crimes.

"The area has been made a priority area for local officers and police community support officers and a plan is being developed that will address these issues," he said.

Several residents have suffered at the hands of vandals in recent months, with a caravan and a shed being set alight as well as a number of cars and vans.

Inspector Wheatley insisted that police will be doing all they can to bring the culprits to justice and put an end to residents' concerns.

"All inquiries are being conducted diligently and any offenders identified will be dealt with robustly," he warned.

This follows an incident in Sussex in which a caravan suffered partial damage after being set alight by vandals, the West Sussex Gazette reports.

Fire crews were called to deal with the blaze at Greenlawns caravan site earlier this week and police are now investigating the incident.
