Caravan break-in 'could have led to death'

A caravan insurance holder who suffered a traumatic break-in at the hands of thieves may have been killed by the lasting effects of the incident, his family have said.

According to the Epworth Bells, 77-year-old Peter Taylor was targeted by two men who forced their way into his caravan as part of an aggravated burglary in October last year.

The duo held Mr Taylor in the vehicle while they rooted around for any valuables, before fleeing with nothing and leaving him locked inside the caravan.

Mr Taylor has since passed away and his family believe that this could have been a result of the burglary.

Although police have made no link between the break-in and Mr Taylor's death, his sister Margaret claims that panic attacks brought about by the incident could have been a factor.

"It was very lonely where he lived; there was nobody within shouting distance," she told the newspaper.

"He trusted people too much. He was a very trusting man and that was probably one of his downfalls."

The incident will come as a reminder to mobile home owners of the importance of taking out caravan insurance to protect their vehicles from thieves.

People can also invest in high-security locks or wheel clamps for added security.
