Caravan owners alerted to digital switchover
Caravan park owners in Devon have been urged to make preparations ahead of "a big opportunity" for the region's tourist industry this summer.
The area is expecting a huge surge in visitor numbers over the summer months as the current economic climate encourages more people to holiday closer to home.
Officials at the county council are keen to take advantage of this by offering an experience that will draw people back again and again, and caravan park leaders have an important role to play in the plans.
The authority is reminding owners that they must make sure they are ready for the looming switchover to digital television, which starts this April.
This will see analogue transmitters around the UK being switched off and viewers will require digital equipment if they wish to continue receiving regular channels.
County councillor Des Hannon, who will oversee the switchover in Devon, said: "Customers expect a working telly in their guest room, cottage or caravan so it is incredibly important to make sure that they are ready for the switchover before the holiday season starts."
Caravan insurance holders could find they need to book a pitch at their favourite site early this year to avoid disappointment, with experts from all quarters anticipating a rise in the number of families taking UK breaks.
