Caravan needed for Santa's float
Any Essex caravan insurance holders looking to invest in a new motorhome can do their bit for charity by donating their old model to the Rotary Club.
The organisation's Manningtree branch is looking for a new trailer or a caravan that can be modified to replace the old one it uses for its annual Christmas charity collection, the Harwich and Manningtree Standard reports.
Rust has rendered the former float unusable and means that the model is also not safe.
According to the publication, last year's winter collection saw the club raise £2,300 aboard its trusty but rusty vehicle.
Commenting, Rotary Club member David Shearmur, said: "When it came in this year we had a look underneath and we realised that it really was beyond repair. The club is appealing for a replacement trailer, which under new regulations must be a twin axle base so that we can build a new float to tour the area next December."
He added that a trailer would be appreciated but the club could also work with a caravan by taking the top off.
In related news, the Northampton Chronicle recently reported that the town's Rotary Club branch donated £3,500 to help the housebound following its Christmas carol float collection.
