Sweet-covered caravan is star of the show
A caravan covered in sweets was the focal point for a play performed outdoors in Northumberland recently.
The Journal reports that families and clients of north-east law firm Dickinson Dees attended the Northern Stage's performance of Hansel and Gretel, which was sponsored by the lawyers.
One of the firm's partners Neil Warwick told the publication: "We have been involved with the Northern Stage Christmas show for well over a decade, which must make this the longest running private sector sponsorship of the arts in the north-east."
He added that it is important for the company to support local culture, especially in difficult economic times.
Among the props used in the play was a real caravan, covered in edible sweets. It is not known whether the owner of the vehicle had to claim on their caravan insurance after young spectators were allowed to explore the auto - potentially grabbing a fistful of sweets as they did so.
The vehicle is now set to be auctioned at the annual dinner held by the Northern Stage to raise funds.
Whoever makes the winning bid on the caravan might want to make sure they get it insured as figures from the Home Office highlight that around 3,000 of the motorhomes are stolen every year in the UK.
