Cockerel criminal attempts a caravan break-in
The owners of a caravan parked in a garden in Brean, Somerset, might have had a shock last month when an unexpected guest of the fowl variety tried to get into the vehicle.
A Polish cockerel was found trying to break into the caravan after getting in through the awning of the stationary vehicle, which was parked in a garden, the Press Association reports.
It is not known whether the motorhome owners needed to make a caravan insurance claim following the attempted break-in.
Popular thought is that the bird had got lost while looking for a mate and has been named Romeo in light of this.
The cockerel has been taken in by staff at the Secret World Wildlife Rescue centre, who are hoping to find him a home before Valentine's Day arrives.
"It's difficult to say what he was doing wandering around - he may have been a hen-pecked spouse who'd just had enough, or a single cockerel prowling about, trying to avoid spending Valentine's alone," commented Secret World spokesman Jamie Baker.
The centre - which looks after more than 4,000 animals - has seen donations drop by £50,000 during the credit crunch and has said that anyone who donates more than £10 before Thursday will receive a certificate for their Valentine to show the donation was made in their name.
