Sloane Square becomes caravan's temporary home

A caravan has become the temporary focal point of Sloane Square in London as actors aim to remind the public of the floods of 2007.

The Look Left Look Right Theatre has erected the motorhome in the square and is inviting the public - potentially including caravan insurance customers - to enter and watch actors perform extracts from interviews conducted with some of the families who were affected by the flooding.

During the floods, many households turned to caravans for refuge as their homes fell victim to the tumultuous weather.

A maximum of eight adults are admitted for each 40-minute show, which has won a Fringe First Award and runs until February 28th.

Directors Mimi Poskitt and Ben Freedman commented on the production: "With The Caravan the venue is integral to the piece; a normal theatre just wouldn't work. The audience are sitting with the performers, maybe only a foot apart, having tea with them, being asked to make space, or budge up.

"It's a very real experience, and as we're using interviews from actual people still living in caravans it makes sense to set it in a caravan."

They went on to add that they felt what people went through during the floods should be considered and accurately remembered.
