Caravan owners continue to wait for new site

Caravan insurance holders who have been waiting with bated breath for a new holiday park in Lowestoft will have to wait a little longer for the plans to be given the final nod.

A year after the deal to transform the town's North Denes seafront site into the holiday park, it was revealed by a Waverley district council member that the sale of the area has yet to go through, the Lowestoft Journal reports.

The site is set to be developed by Park Holidays to include 150 static caravans and 70 pitching areas for touring caravans.

However, some people have campaigned against the plans as the development would be built on top of an existing caravan site and some are wary that the promised motorhome spaces will not appear.

Protect Our North Denes Association has started a campaign, financed by businessman Mervyn Lambert, to stop the development.

Mr Lambert commented: "I would question how a tender can be accepted by a council under European law and then be negotiated for another 12 months. The battle is not over. There are no caravans on there yet and just watch this space."

Recently, the Caravan Club announced that it would be adding nine new sites in 2009.
