Caravan site awarded for eco-dedication

In news that may be of interest to caravan insurance policyholders, a motorhome site in Devon has been awarded for its dedication to the environment.

Oakdown Touring and Holiday Park near Sidmouth has been given the David Bellamy Conservation Award of Special Distinction, which was presented to the Franks family at the Hilton Hotel in Blackpool.

A number of the awards were presented to holidays that have shown dedication to the environmental cause.

The Franks were given their award for the effort put into habitat creation on their site's golf course.

Speaking to the Sidmouth Herald, park manager Alastair Franks said: "This is a level above gold and a one-off award. We didn't really know it was coming up and were quite excited when we won."

Meanwhile, the Hexham Courant reports that Allendale Caravan Park was also awarded at the event after owners Verona and Mike Woodhouse drew up an environmental management plan for their site.

Ms Woodhouse commented: "We are particularly pleased to have won because a number of the other winners are large companies with substantial numbers of staff, whereas we are just a husband and wife business."
