Wales popular with caravanning Brits

British holidaymakers - potentially including caravan insurance policyholders - are increasingly heading to Wales for their caravan and camping holidays, rather than further afield.

According to thisissouthwales.co.uk, tourism in the region is already booming as Britons head to Wales for the Easter break.

More people are choosing to holiday at home than spend abroad as the credit crunch forces consumers to make sacrifices. Additionally, many may be put off going abroad because of the recent strength of the euro.

Kennexstone Camping and Touring Park spokeswoman Emma Rogers, aged 42, said that the site is playing host to many families coming for the first time this year, adding that "sales are definitely up".

Meanwhile, Roger Button, of Hillend Caravan and Camping Park, told the website that the strong euro is impacting upon the holiday industry.

"I know a couple who go to France every year, but they just can't afford it this year, so they're staying in Wales. The strength of the euro made travelling to France too expensive," he said.

The Times recently reported that calls for caravan and camping sites to operator 118 118 rose by 40 per cent last December, while the Caravan Club has said that bookings are up by 40 per cent for 2009.
