Motorhome pitches to be sacrificed
A holiday park is set to expand by adding numerous timber lodges to its site - but at the expense of a number of caravan pitches.
Glenmore Caravan and Camping Site has received permission from the Cairngorms National Park planning committee for the construction of 38 timber lodges at the site, which could help boost tourism to the area.
However, caravan insurance policyholders to the park might be disappointed to read that 12 motorhome pitches have to be sacrificed to allow for the new holiday homes to be built, the Strathspey and Badenoch Herald reports.
Concerns have been raised that this could mean ad hoc visitors are turned away upon arrival for their holiday.
Mr Adrian Burn, head of planning for Forest Holidays, which part owns the site, said: "Our business case is very simple and based on experience and fact. We have a site which performs well for only 25 per cent of the year. We have a product which performs well for 100 per cent of the year and which is entirely compatible with the site. We marry the two and have a site which performs much better all year round."
So far, eight objections have been made to the plans, which also include a total revamp of the existing camp and caravan site, such as the moving of pitch locations.
Earlier this year, a caravan site owner in Wem applied to increase the number of static caravans at the site by 21, the North Shropshire Chronicle reports.
