Elderly caravan owners forced to wheel bins uphill

A group of caravan-loving pensioners are having to exert themselves by pushing their bins to and from their caravan site because local bin men refuse to pick up their waste from the park.

According to ThisisGloucestershire.co.uk, the pensioners at a Quedgeley caravan park do not understand why the refuse collection lorry will not enter the site, with them instead having to push their wheelie-bins up and down a steep hill.

Owner of the park Chris Barrett is among those who struggle to take their refuse up and down the incline.

"Some of the people here are in their mid to late 80s and they have to wheel their bins down the hill and on to the road," she said.

Resident Alan Irvine, aged 86, said that he has to get someone else to move his bins for him.

"The wagon won't come to us. I don't see why they don't drive on to the site - they just need to use a smaller lorry," he said.

Speaking to the publication, a city council spokeswoman said that a smaller vehicle was in use to collect rubbish from around the site, adding that residents have pushed their bins to the end of the cul-de-sacs for the last nine years.

Negotiations are currently taking place to see how the complaints can be resolved for the caravan insurance holders.

A number of councils provide waste collection services for caravan parks, but residents are often required to pay a charge for collection.
