Honda manager finds career in motorhomes

A manager at vehicle firm Honda has opened his own business maintaining caravans in a bid to escape adverse effects of the recession.

Martin Pearce, from Swindon, worked as a manager at Honda for 16 years before deciding to embark on a recession-proof career fixing motorhomes as Honda's South Marston car plants shuts down.

Speaking to the Swindon Advertiser, Mr Pearce said he had been looking through a caravan magazine when he spotted an advert for a caravan medic franchise, which he subsequently bought.

He can now carry out repairs for caravan insurance customers across the Swindon and Gloucester areas.

"Caravanning is a massive business. There are something like 400,000 new caravans sold every year, so this could potentially be a really successful business," he commented.

Mr Pearce expects to be carrying out work on motorhome panels, which affect the rest of the caravan and can get dented.

"I can take them out and make it look like new again," he said.

The Caravan Medic company will be officially launched on March 21st.

Meanwhile, Oxfordshire motorcycle firm Hughenden M40 recently added an in-house bike medic to its service line-up, carmedic.co.uk reports.
